Congratulations to the Antigonish Bulldogs on winning their third straight Veterans Cup in a 4-3 OT win on the road against the Lumberjacks. Nick Marshall scored the overtime winning goal for the Dogs, and former Crusher Venel Campbell was named MVP of the playoffs.
A big nod has to be given to GM David Cusack and Head Coach Donnie Grant for their turn around of the Dogs franchise, from a perennial bubble playoff team to a juggernaut year after year. Among the players to win this years title are former Crushers Campbell, Adam Tkacz and Ray MacKinnon, former Wildcat Sam Grant, and former Bearcat Tully Grant.
The Bulldogs will now look to defend the Don Johnson Cup in Newfoundland this year. Joining Antigonish are the host Mount Pearl Blades, St. John’s Caps from NL, Kensington Vipers from PEI, and Kent Koyotes from NB.
Also want to say a huge congratulations to the Lumberjacks players and organizations. Down 3-0 in the opening round, and end just shy of a league title, that’s no small achievement. It is long overdue to have championship calibre junior hockey in the South Shore, and it looks like it’s here to stay.
