KENSINGTON MONAGHAN FARMS WILD
Team History
The Kensington Wild are the former Cornwall Thunder franchise who shifted to Kensington in 2013. For many years, the two PEI based teams played in close proximity to each other in Charlottetown and Cornwall, and it became common to see one of the two teams load up each season while the other usually struggled a bit on the ice. In 2023, a ruling was put in place to deter player movement from one organization to another at the Under 18 level. The Wild won their only NBPEI championship to date during the 2015-16 season. They also played at the 2004 Telus Cup while known as the Cornwall Superior Thunder. They have won ten PEI titles (2003; 2004; 2009; 2012; 2013; 2014; 2016; 2017; 2018 and 2019). Franchise career scoring leaders are Colby MacArthur (99-41-67*-108); Frank Fortin (74-55*44-99) and Ryan Richards (98-31-65-96). The Wild play their home games at the Kensington Credit Union Centre. As always, if somebody can offer up missing info, make corrections or updates - please feel free to do so. There are a ton of forum members here who know a lot more about Major Under 18 than I ever will. 2017-18 KENSINGTON WILD - PEI CHAMPIONS FROM HOCKEYCANADA.COM: Road to the Telus Cup 2015-16 Top Regular Season Team - Kensington Wild
For the first time in the past five years, the Moncton Flyers were not regular-season champions of the N.B./P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League. The Kensington Wild won its final six games to edge the Saint John Vito’s – the 2016 TELUS Cup hosts – by a single point and the Fredericton Caps by two.
The Wild’s league-best 164 goals scored and a perfect 6-0 record in the month of December helped the team take top spot in the NBPEIMMHL. The Wild had the league’s top scorer, Brodie MacArthur, who put up 20 goals and 40 assists and was held off the scoresheet only twice in 35 games. T.J. Shea (54 points) and Frank Fortin (41 points) joined him among the league’s scoring leaders, finishing second and fifth, respectively.

MONCTON RALLYE MOTORS NISSAN FLYERS
Team History
The Moncton Rallye Motors Nissan Flyers are the most successful franchise in the NBPEI League. The Flyers program dates back to the 1970's. It's kind of strange to try to look up the franchise history and not find a lot for such a well known franchise. They've been sponsored by Rallye Motors for as long as I can remember. They were formerly sponsored by Mark's Work Wearhouse. Along with producing a large number of top draft prospects each season, the Flyers have also been very successful on the ice. They have won the league championship a record 11 times (2008; 2009; 2012; 2013; 2014; 2015; 2017; 2018; 2019; 2020 and 2022). The 2019-20 win was accomplished by having completed the regular season - before the playoffs were canceled due to COVID. Of their 11 league championships, all 11 have come in the past 16 seasons as the Flyers program has clearly forged ahead of the others. The Flyers have won the New Brunswick title 10 times (2008; 2009; 2012; 2013; 2015; 2017; 2018; 2019; 2021 and 2022). After having most of the 2021 season reduced to a handful of games for most teams, the provincial playoffs were allowed to be played, with the Flyers crowned New Brunswick champions. Franchise scoring leaders are Shane Dallaire (103-58-89*-147*); Alex Bradley (104-60*-77-137) and Lindon Beckwith (102-42-75-117). The Flyers play their home games at the Superior Propane Centre. Moncton Flyers first N.B. team to win U18 national hockey championship Flyers second Atlantic Canadian team to bring home the national title CBC News · Posted: May 23, 2022
The Moncton Flyers was the first New Brunswick team to win the men's U18 national champ- ionship. The Moncton Rallye Motors Nissan Flyers won the Canadian U18 National Championship TELUS cup on Sunday, after playing the entire tournament without a loss.
The Flyers, playing in Alberta, beat the Magog Cantonniers 5-4 in overtime.
For league president Barry Thompson, the win has meaning for all of Atlantic Canada. "I think it shows to probably the rest of the country, to be quite honest with you, that teams here in Atlantic Canada are developing very well," Thompson said.
The Flyers are the first New Brunswick team to win the U18 national title, and the second in Atlantic Canada after the Cape Breton West Islanders, who won the TELUS cup in 2017.
Thompson called their performance surgical. "They worked through their game plan, they stick to their game plan, and it doesn't seem to rattle them too much, at least to us who are watching the game, and they're able to get the job done," he said.
Jack Martin, from Upper Coverdale, N.B., scored the winning goal 40 seconds into overtime. Other players who scored for the Flyers in the final were Philippe Collette from Saint-Antoine and Moncton's Marco Martin, Luke Patterson and Zachary Wheeler.
Goaltender Samuel LeBlanc of Memramcook stopped 38 shots.
"It's so exciting. I think it's great for the flyers, great for the New Brunswick teams, great for the whole region for everybody to see that going on," Thompson said. 'It means a lot to have all of Atlantic Canada cheering you on.' Thompson said years of development, including about 14 years of dedication from Coach John DeCourcey, led to the win. "It's everything from the ground up," he said. "They [the coaches] do an incredible job with those players and get them to buy into a program, get them to buy into the plan, and do a great job developing along the way."
He said the team's reaction was unbelievable, adding Atlantic Canada had jumped on the wagon with them and was following along. "When you're all the way out in Calgary, it means a lot to have all of Atlantic Canada cheering you on," Thompson said.
A lot of the team's players have been drafted to play major junior hockey, Thompson said, adding some might be going into private school or the United States college system. He added Moncton will have a great core of returning players as well. "There's a lot of good future here for all of these players," he said.

CONTENDO NORTHERN MOOSE
Team History
The Northern Contendo Moose were formerly the Miramichi Rivermen franchise until 2017 when Hockey New Brunswick made the decision to relocate the franchise after 26 seasons in Miramichi. The franchise has made two appearances at the National Championships - in 1992 and 2010. Since the formation of the NBPEI League, they won the league championship and doubled as New Brunswick champions in 2010 while known as the Rivermen. Franchise scoring leaders are Guy Richard (54-38-54-92*); Sam Castonguay (89-38-46-84); Cole MacDonald (91-13-67*-80) and Walker Campbell (96-47*-25-72). Current head coach, Frank Rochon, formerly played with the U de Moncton Aigles Bleu for five seasons after playing Junior A in Quebec with Terrebone and Longueuil. The Moose play their home games at the KC Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst. As always, if anybody can help fill in some of the missing coaching info for any U18 program, it would be much appreciated.
Hockey NB moves midget franchise from Miramichi to Bathurst After 25 years as the Miramichi Rivermen, team moves north to Bathurst Gail Harding · CBC News · Posted: May 13, 2017
The Miramichi Rivermen major midget hockey team will no longer exist after Hockey New Brunswick awarded the franchise bid to Bathurst. Midget hockey players in northern New Brunswick will be playing in a new city under a new name next season.
On Tuesday, Hockey New Brunswick announced it was moving the franchise in Zone D (North) from Miramichi to Bathurst.
The decision was welcomed by Hollis Chamberlain, the president of the as-yet-unnamed team, but the Miramichi Rivermen weren't happy.
After looking at everything, there seemed to be less and less kids going to play in Miramichi. - Hollis Chamberlain, president of new Bathurst team
A new process put in place by Hockey New Brunswick's board of directors invited hockey organizations across the province to bid on having a midget hockey team in their cities.
Chamberlain said this opened up a chance for Bathurst to have a midget team after the city lost the bid more than 15 years ago when three teams in the region were downsized to one.
"We wanted to get it back into the region," Chamberlain said.
Another reason for the bid was to get more players involved again.
Midget hockey players are ages 16 and 17 years old and can move to junior or university level hockey when they turn 18.
"After looking at everything, there seemed to be less and less kids going to play in Miramichi and were looking elsewhere and to other provinces or prep schools," Chamberlain said.
"We also thought our area was pretty central in our zone in the north. We thought Bathurst was pretty central for everybody."
Zone D covers the area from Kent Centre to Restigouche, which includes Miramichi, the Acadian Peninsula and Chaleur.
Chamberlain said it's understandable the Miramichi group would be upset with the decision after having the Rivermen for 25 years.
"I'm sure that there's some people that don't fully agree with the decision. Up until February, we never thought we'd have an opportunity to host a team until Hockey New Brunswick opened up this new franchise system."
Not happy with reasons While there were a number of bids from around the province, the franchise in Zone D was the only one to change locations. Each organization has a three-year contract that's reviewed each year.
Miramichi Rivermen manager Wesley Cable called the three reasons the team got for the relocation weak, but there is no option to appeal.
Hockey New Brunswick used a bid process to award team franchises to four cities in four zones. "We were very disappointed. It was a 25-year team. ... It was quite a shock."
Cable said the Rivermen were told they didn't do enough recruiting, didn't make it mandatory for players travelling from long distances to attend the twice-weekly practices, and showed a lack of communication with the northern minor hockey associations.
"That was kind of a tough one," said Cable referring to the lack of communication. "They have a group formed that was supposed to take care of that and we had representative from that group on our board and he sent messages back, information back as the year went on."
The Rivermen organization is going its annual dinner and auction June 3 with retired New York Islander Mike Bossy as the special guest.
Will try to get team back Cable said the focus for the organization now will be development of young hockey players while it prepares to bid to have the team returned to Miramichi in three years.
Hockey NB executive director Nic Jansen said he wouldn't get into specifics why one city was chosen over another.
"We have broken it down and we have provided any of the unsuccessful bidders with feedback."
Jansen said the new group was selected based on the information in their bid and their presentation.
"I guess we believe that their bid was superior with certain information that made them end up being awarded the franchise."

SAINT JOHN VITO'S
Team HistoryThe Saint John Vito's franchise was dates back to 1978 when they were known as the Pepsis and were one of the original teams in the Maritime Midget Hockey League along with Halifax, Dartmouth, Valley, Fredericton and Cape Breton. They left the league in 1983 along with Fredericton and joined the New Brunswick AAA Midget League. The franchise were known as the Saint John Flames for a few years, but I haven't been able to establish the exact timeline - if anybody can help - please do. Saint John has made two appearances at the U18 National Championships - in 1998 and in 2016 when they played host to the Telus Cup. Their best finish was a silver medal in 2016 when they made it all the way to the championship game before losing to the North York Rangers (see story below). The silver medal was the first of any colour for a New Brunswick team at the U18 / AAA Midget National Championships. The 1998 team was known as the Flames. The head coach was Yvon Vautour, with Greg Leland as assistant coach. Since the NBPEI league was formed in 2002, Saint John won their only league championship in 2006, and were New Brunswick champions in 2006, 2014 and 2016. They previously won the New Brunswick championship in 1977, 1981, 1993 and 1998. The Vito's played their home games at the Lord Beaverbrook Arena in Saint John until 2012, but now play out of the QPlex in Quispamsis. Franchise scoring leaders are Caleb Kean (99-75*-95*-170*); Jean-Marc Leblanc (86-56-69-125) and Andrew Langan (85-18-74-122). Kean's totals are also the best in league history. He was a two time league scoring champion. As always, if anybody can help fill in some of the missing coaching info for any U18 program, it would be much appreciated. From the Canadian Press: Saint John Vito's upset Lac St-Louis Lions in Telus Cup semis Published Apr 23, 2016
Saint John Vito's players celebrate their 2-1 semifinal win over the Lac St-Louis Lions on Saturday, April 23, 2016, in the 2016 Telus Cup.
QUISPAMSIS, N.B. — Jake Stewart stopped 42-of-43 shots as the Saint John Vito’s upset the Lac St-Louis Lions 2-1 on Saturday in the 2016 Telus Cup semifinals.
Saint John will face the North York Rangers on Sunday for Canada’s national men’s midget ice hockey championship.
Adam Capannelli gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the first period and outshot the Vito’s 17-4 in the opening 20 minutes.
After a scoreless second period, Anderson MacDonald responded for Saint John at 14:20 of the third, then Alex Lafreniere scored the go-ahead goal at 16:11 while on the power play.
Sandro Silvestre stopped 28-of-30 shots for the Lions.
The Vito’s went 1 for 3 on the power play, while the Lions failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
The Lions finished round-robin play as the only undefeated team and shut out Saint John 5-0 on Friday. Tournament MVP Mathias Laferriere had a hat trick in that game and finished the preliminary round with eight goals and 13 points in five games, but could only muster up a single assist in the rematch Saturday.
In the other semi, William Calverley scored twice and added an assist as North York toppled the Lloydminster Bobcats 5-3 to claim its place in the Telus Cup championship.
James Turner and Mark Perone had a goal and an assist each for the Rangers, while Sean Josling rounded out the offence. Jett Alexander turned away 31-of-34 shots for the victory.
T.J. Lloyd, Tristan Petrie and Parker Saretsky found the back of the net for the Bobcats, who got a 19-save outing from Austin McGrath.
North York went 1 for 2 on the power play, while Lloydminster failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.
The Lions and Bobcats will play for bronze on Sunday prior to the gold-medal game.

Summerside Western Capitals prospect, 2006 Ethan Dickson of the Kensington Wild, had a fantastic season winning the NBPEIMHL scoring title by 20 points over Austin Sanchez of the Moncton Flyers.
Ethan has gotten into 6 games with the Caps over the past two seasons (6-1-1-2-0).
His 75 points this searon were the most in the league since Caleb Kean finished with 75 during the 2018-19 season.
The league record for most points in a season is held by Allain Saulnier of the Moncton Flyers during the 2008-09 season.
Check out the U18 record books some time when you have a few minutes. The league is a huge producer of talent.
