A bit off-topic, but nowhere else better to post it.
Mooseheads 2024 Trade Period
I'm a bit late to this with the Moose already adding centre Peter Reynolds (32-20-24-44-10) from Saint John. Reynolds currently sits 7th in league scoring giving the Moose four of the league's top seven scorers. That filled a major hole, and of course, erased any apprehensions anybody might have had about not loading up.
I can only post what makes sense to me. We all see things differently. What I think they should do - what they actually end up doing - and what everybody else thinks could be all over the map.
I think goaltending is probably set. At this time last year, I was squawking to upgrade on Brady James, but Rousseau was like Glenn Hall down the stretch and through the playoffs.
The D is also likely set. I do think it could be improved on - but it would be a 4th or 5th priority. As such - it's likely better to know when to hold-em.
Up front is where they need to add. I think everybody knows that it's the objective and the priority.
I've always found that if you put a table in front of you - it becomes a bit clearer on what you need to do.
Looking at the lines above, the top line is your gravy line. You split lines up when they're not clicking. Other than spotting a guy here and there, don't toy with that.
Looking on the left side, I don't think that a team looking to make a trip to the league final minimum can count on Logan Crosby or Lou Levesque to fill a top six role. If you want to win, you need to address the things that might go wrong - not just in goal.
Israel Mianscum (31-18-32-50-23) fits the bill, IMO. He currently sits 3rd in league scoring and if the Moose acquired him - they would have a monopoly with 5 of the league's top 7 scorers. Mianscum has size and as George Matthews says about Ben Boyd - he's 6 foot 2 every time he goes out on the ice.
Joe Henneberry would be nice, but somebody posted on the Q board that the asking price is a 1st and a 2nd, plus two 17 or 18 year-olds, and maybe that was just the booze talkin' - but if it's true - it isn't so much that he isn't worth it - as not having enough left over after acquiring Reynolds and Mianscum to pay the price. I know he's a 2004, but to play a 3rd line role isn't worth a 1st and a 17 year-old when you have your 20's for next season 99% in place (Rousseau, Vidicek, Schultz, Furlong?).
Anyway - for sure I'd like to see Mianscum and Henneberry, and maybe the price would come down enough to do that.
Milo Roelens and Henneberry would also be good and would change the forward line positions around a bit - but same depth.
IMO - Liam Kilfoil has shown that he can prosper with more ice time and is a solid top six forward. You can insulate him a bit in close games, but in all honesty, your team is better with him out there as a top six rather than on the bench. He's now at the top of my untouchable list on the roster. I had him ranked as the 8th best player in last year's draft and if they did the draft over again today - he'd go top three. He's already exceeded expectations. I didn't expect him to even be playing in the league.
I hope Cam Pollock drops another bomb soon. The Moose play Thursday night.
Just my opinion to give a bit of life to the board through the holidays.
