...and then there were 72.
All 9 leagues are now into the quarter finals. All teams remaining are 12 or fewer wins away from a berth at the Centennial Cup. Should be a fun next week or two as this is the most hectic time of the year.

Was just the one game tonight in the MHL with Pictou holding serve and sending the series back to Amherst tied up.
Random musing, I've began to dislike the 2-2-1-1-1 format as it shifts home ice advantage. If this was a perfect world, after an even number games have been played (ie. after games 2,4,6) the higher seeded team should have the higher number of home games remaining. That way, in a tied series, it becomes a best of 5, best of 3, best of 1 with the higher seeded team hosting a greater number of home games.
The South division gives a great example. Both the Summerside/Yarmouth and Amherst/Pictou series are tied 1-1, but Yarmouth as the lower seed actually has home ice advantage for the remainder of the series. Amherst retains their home ice advantage as that series is using the 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 format.
It also doesn't make any sense for teams to travel back and forth 6+ hours so that 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 format can not always be used. My suggestion is a little unorthodox but is used tennis and every single persons fantasy draft. Snake. ABBA. However you want to say it.
1-2-2-2. Higher seed hosts games 2-3, 6-7. Every tie after an even number of games are played results in the higher seed hosting more games afterwards. Problem solved hooray!
Not so fast though. Some drawbacks that I would call significant. Requires two trips for the higher seeded team in a 4 or 5 game series. Not a problem at the NHL level, bigger problem at the junior level. Travel is a huge advantage being the higher seeded team. A 5 game series would see a higher seeded team travel just 1 time in a 2-2-1-1-1 format, while the lower seeded team would need to make 2 trips. It would be in the inverse with the 1-2-2-2 format. The second reason is no game 1 opener. It's honestly not a bad thing, had a best of 3 in University where we had to travel for game 1, lost, but wasn't a big deal cause we had games 2 and 3 at home. It's reassuring knowing even if you find yourself down 1-0 or 3-2, you have 2 games at home to get it done.
-----
Bigger night in store tomorrow, another MHL game along with full slates in the QJHL and AJHL. Looks like Friday is the crazy day.

Another year, another embarrassing post season exit for the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
Elsewhere, Thursday looks to be the calm before the storm with only 8 games on the go compared to 31 on Friday night. Only 10 of the remaining 72 (actually 71 cause Bonnyville sucks) teams won't see action on Friday as the League Quarter Finals get fully underway this weekend.

Sheet was been updated with the weekends happenings.
The AJHL said see ya later to the quarter finals and hello to the semi finals. Those get underway Friday.
Lots of series look to be heading to games 6 or 7s. Quarter finals will be wrapped up by next weekend.
