Been a very sudden death for a remarkable amount of series this year where the deciding game was won in overtime.
AJHL - 4 out of 7 series clinched in overtime - 57% OJHL - 3 out of 8 series clinched in overtime - 38% QJHL - 3 out of 6 series clinched in overtime - 50% MHL - 2 out of 3 series clinched in overtime - 67%
Lesson being, don't go to overtime when facing elimination.
Teams have only been able to extend a series twice once that game has reached overtime.
There's of course no repeatability or reason for this, but fun to note

Thanks for doing this! Very informative!
Is the Fred Page Cup still held to crown the eastern Canadian champion before Centennial Cup? Or do all of the league champs advance directly to the Centennial Cup? I wasn't sure if the Fred Page Cup was still a thing where it appeared to fall by the wayside during the pandemic, but I could be wrong.

The Centennial Cup is now, and for the foreseeable future will be, a 10 team tournament with the 9 league champs and a host team.
As such, there is no need to hold regional championships.
Personally, I do not see them going away from this format unless the whole fabric of Jr A changes because of the whole BCHL situation.
But this is not the place to debate the merits of that, or to debate whether this makes the Centennial Cup the Tier II of Junior A. The fact of the matter is that with the reality of where we are - this is the way the National Champion is determined.

Heading into the Easter long weekend, there is a lot happening.
The AJHL and QJHL kick off their Semi Finals tonight.
The SJHL has seen perennial contenders Flin Flon and Battlefords punch their tickets to the Semi Finals which will begin next Friday.
In Manitoba, Steinbach is through to the Semi Finals while the other 3 series are very tight and could possibly go the distance.
Northwestern Ontario has been hindered by road conditions resulting in the rescheduling of games last week. Currently all SIJHL quarter final series are 2-0 or 3-0 so those will probably be wrapped up this weekend.
The NOJHL has a real upset brewing as National #12 Blind River is on the ropes down 3-2 after extending the series last night in Game 5. Powassan is also channeling their '93 Habs magic (spits) and are 3-0 in OT.
OJHL action sees the hosts Oakville trying to overcome a 3-0 deficit to avoid a long layoff. From experience, those 33 days until the tournament starts SUCK.
In the Ottawa region, Pembroke is giving National #5 Navan all they can handle as that series is deadlocked at 2's. Cornwall the only team so far to punch their ticket.
Finally, at home. Miramichi looks to join in the Division Final fun as they have a 3-1 strangle hold over the West Kent Steamers.

I was just trying to jog my memory on the format for Centennial Cup after the league playoffs. I had forgotten about all of the turmoil with the BCHL too. I can see why the new format makes sense from a logistical standpoint too, as it saves teams on time and travel costs when they can advance directly to a national tournament after winning their respective leagues (aside from the host teams, which are likely guaranteed a spot).
