Both New Brunswick teams got off to a great start during the first day of the Maritime Junior C Hockey Championship in Miramichi on Wednesday.
The Tri-County Rivercats defeated the PEI reps Pownal Ice Dogs 5-0, while the host Sunny Corner Thunder defeated the Nova Scotia reps Southwest Storm 7-0.
Games resume today with the Storm facing the River Cats at 4:30 p.m. and the Thunder taking on the Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m.
With the Timberwolves off until Sunday evening, I expect the Civic Centre to be a bit more full for the remainder of the tournament, especially if Sunny Corner manages to make it to Sunday's final.

Both NB teams continued their scoring ways last night. and are now 2-0 in the round robin. One of those perfect records comes to an end tonight as they meet for their round robin bid. Games at the Miramichi Civic Centre are as follows; Ice Dogs (PEI) - Storm (NS) facing off at 4:30PM - Both teams are currently 0-2 with a combined GAA of 8.5 per game River Cats (NB) - Thunder (Host) facing off at 7:30PM - Both teams are currently 2-0 with a combined GF of 8.5 per game I did see they they are streaming this on another paid subscription platform. its rough being a general hockey fan every time you try to catch a game of interest you are hit with another pay to watch.

It will be an all New Brunswick final tomorrow with the host Thunder taking on the RiverCats at 1 p.m.
The Thunder hung on to defeat the Ice Dogs 4-3 while the River Cats edged the Storm 5-3 in today's semifinals.
Lots of players with Jr. A experience (Mostly with the Timberwolves) playing in tomorrow's finals. The Thunder have Zepth Martin who started off the season with the Timberwolves. David Delorme played last season while Sam Cormier, Landon Coughlan affiliated in the past and so to did Carter Astle. Jackson Shaddick got into a few games this season with the Fredericton Red Wings.
For Tri-County, Matt Lint played in the Q and in the MHL with the Timberwolves. Preston Gillespie affiliated with the Timberwolves. Austin Black played with Fredericton during the 21-22 season.
I may be missing a few, but this should be a very entertaining hockey game.
The 50/50 in the final round robin game between these two was around 700$ and with the Timberwolves and Caps playing tomorrow night, I expect a really big crowd for this one.
