After the Saint John Knights went under this season for reasons I’m not aware, the Saint John Vitos have stepped up and taken over to bring U16AAA back to Saint John. Awesome to see for the league and for more opportunities for players. The Vitos having control over the U16 Team also makes a strong development line which is great too. www.facebook.com/share/p/RjtN9QbEupQFePPm/?mibextid=QwDbR1Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw 2-3 more U16AAA squads in NB in the coming years (Fredericton, Miramichi, Edmundston would be my guess)

Yes great that the Vitos will be taking over the U16 franchise. The problem this past year was numbers. Couldn't pull enough players together for form a team D was particularly the issue i believe. Not hard to see with 10 08 players on the Vitos U!8 last year, just weren't enough kids left. I believe the 09 group is fairly large and with a theoretically smaller number of open U18 slots with a bunch of returning kids there should be enough to put together a competitive U16 team.
You would think Fredericton would be easy pickings for a 16 team but I've heard that the high school programs are very strong so kids would rather go there.

In Fredericton the players would rather play high school if they do not make the U-18 AAA and stay in town. They can still affiliate with them.

The league is U-15 (13 & 14 year olds...23/24 season consisted of 2009 and 2010 births)
I think this lines up with grade 8 and grade 9.
Not too many grade 9'ers make AAA conference high school hockey.
U-18 is for 15-16-17 year olds, which I believe typically lines up with grade 10-11-12 and who are the usual high school crop

This is a U16 league, it's for players who don't want or can't make the jump to U18 fresh out of U15 and want a season or two to play here. It is for 15-16 year old players who don't turn 17 until after the season. U15 teams in Moncton for example are the Dieppe Flyers and Moncton Hawks, U16 team is the Moncton Thunderbirds.
