ACADIE-BATHURST TITAN Gord Dwyer
TEAM OUTLOOK: Head Coach/GM: Gord Dwyer Imports: G Antoine Keller; LW Juraj Pekarcik The Titan are entering year two of their rebuild. They finished last in their conference (20-40-5-3) and last overall in the 18 team league. They didn't trade Riley Kidney and Jacob Melanson until the trade deadline, and that really helped them get through year 1 of the rebuild and win a respectable 20 games.
The Titan hold the 2nd and 62nd overall picks in the CHL import draft and should be able to add some immediate help if they can find a player or two who will report.
Update: The Titan selected 2005 LW/C Juraj Pekarcik of Slovakia with the 2nd overall pick in the CHL Import draft on July 5th. As of July 17th, Pekarcik shows to be playing the coming season with Dubuque of the USHL (Elite Prospects).
With the 62nd overall pick, the Titan selected 2004 G Antoine Keller who was a 7th round pick of the Washington Capitals. Keller was named France's best player at the World Junior Tournament in the 2nd Division.

GOALTENDERS
Joshua FlemingGOALTENDERS | 04 Joshua Fleming | 04 Antoine Keller |
GOALTENDING: Joshua Fleming returns as the number 1 barring any further roster moves heading into training camp. The backup role appears to be wide open. A goalie with one of the import picks might not be out of the question.
Notes: 2005 G Mathis Lacroix-Goulet got into a game last season with the Titan. He has good size and put up good numbers in Quebec Junior A. Update: Lacroix-Goulet was traded to Baie-Comeau on August 27th.
2006 G Samuel Leblanc had a solid rookie season playing Junior A with Edmundston of the MHL.
2004 G Antoine Keller was selected 62nd overall in the CHL Import draft. He should challenge for the number 1 role if he reports. Update: Keller was at training camp.

DEFENCE: The Titan return a solid mix of young defencemen and veterans, but they will likely look to upgrade as much as possible. They also lack right hand shots, but it isn't uncommon to have two left hand shots paired together on D. Most veteran D-men are comfortable on either side.
Notes: 2005 D Evan Bellamy had a strong season with Grand Falls of the MHL after playing for the Saint John Vitos two years ago. He will be playing with Prince George of the BCHL this season. Update: Bellamy was not at training camp.
2003 D Jared Cosman was added to the roster on September 5th.
2006 D Zachary Deleau joined the Titan late in the season and put up 1 assist in 6 games. He put up 10-14-24 totals in 42 U18 games with Chateauguay and then 2-3-5 totals in 5 playoff games. He should get a long look in camp.
2006 D Noah Laberge has good size and strong offensive instincts. He should also get a long look in camp.
2004 D Mason Chitaroni had only 3 assists in 34 games and discussion on the Q Maritime forum questions whether he will be back. With four 2004 D-men included in their projected top six, at some point the roster build needs to get experience for your younger players. He's a good team player and would be a tough cut for the coaches. Update: Chitaroni will play Junior A this season according to posts on the QMJHL Maritimes forum.

FORWARDS: The Titan return a good group up front but there will need to be some shuffling by position. As mentioned with another team, most forwards these days can, and do, switch easily between forward positions without becoming a defensive liability or losing their scoring touch. Competition at the Titan's training camp should be fierce.
Notes: 2004 LW Cameron MacLean only got into 10 games this season putting up 5 points. I'm not sure if it was due to injury or if he's in the team's plans. Nobody on the Q forum seems to have him on their projected rosters. Update: A post on the Q Maritimes forum in late August mentioned that MacLean had to retire from hockey due to concussion issues.
2005 LW Brennan Murphy got into 3 games with the Titan last season (3-0-0-0-0). Update: Murphy joined Summerside of the MHL on September 10th.
Update: 2005 LW Juraj Pekarcik was not on the official training camp roster on August 16.
2007 LW Jacob Rhyno is diminutive at 5'8" and 134 lbs., but his speed and quickness are high-end. It will be interesting to see how he does in training camp, but guessing another year in U18 is likely. He can play shinny. Update: Rhyno was not on the official training camp roster on August 16.
2004 LW Markas Samenas was picked up by the Titan in the import draft with the 39th pick overall last year. He has huge size and added some depth scoring. Update: Samenas was removed from the roster on July 4th and went back into this year's CHL Import draft. He was selected by Flint of the OHL.
2007 C Louis-Francois Belanger was drafted with the first pick of the 2nd round (21st). He is another player who could get a long look in camp.
2006 C Ethan Dickson (8-1-4-5-2) had a good showing with the Titan late in the season and could challenge for a roster spot.
2005 C Malcolm Green (6'3"-185 lbs.) has good size and skills and could make the team if he decides to give Major Junior a shot.
2004 C Colby Huggan was a late addition to the training camp roster. He split last season between Blainville (25-3-4-7-6) and the Amherst Ramblers (21-10-12-22-45). Update: After being on loan for training camp, Huggan was officially traded to the Titan by Blainville on August 27th.
2005 C Juraj Pekarcik was drafted by the Titan in the CHL Import draft but looks to have commited to Dubuque of the USHL according to Elite Prospects as of July 17.
2006 C Izach Poirier got into a game with the Titan last season.
2003 C Milo Roelens (6'6"-207 lbs.) is a huge addition from Sherbrooke.
2005 C Liam Travis got into 2 games last season with Cape Breton (2-0-0-0-0).
2006 RW Jonah Leard finished 3rd in NBPEIU18 scoring. He added an assist in 5 games with the Titan.
2007 RW Landon Paul seems at a crossroads where he needs to decide whether to stick to the NCAA path or whether to play junior hockey. He was drafted in the 1st round of the MHL draft (7th overall) by the Fredericton Red Wings and it begs the question - what do they know that I don't know? I could also be way off with that kind of thinking.
With Landon Paul, Jacob Rhyno and Ty Peddigrew all being selected by the Titan in the draft this season, it gives them three elite players with a huge amount of upside and high hockey IQ. The only question with all three is size. There is home run potential with all three. Add in Louis-Francois Belanger and it points to a lot of offense down the road.
Update: 2006 RW Dawson Sharkey was added to the main Titan camp after being released by the Quebec Remparts. A trade was finalized for Sharkey on August 27th.

* These offseason looks at QMJHL teams will be updated as often as required leading up to training camps in August.

"Bélanger is a very dynamic player with the puck. He has very good hands and uses them to his advantage to score goals. He also has some finishing ability in front of the net, which has pushed him into the top 10 in goals scored so far this season in the LHM18AAAQ. Thanks to his good vision, he is often very well positioned on the ice and is a useful player on the penalty kill. If he can improve his skating, Louis-François will be a very dangerous player at the next level." - Frédéric Lévesque, CSR Scout
Louis-Francois Belanger is another player with smaller size, but with a very high level of skill that seem to be abundant this season in the Quebec U18 ranks. He has outstanding quickness and acceleration. He has a bit of a pinball style that allows him to squeeze past defenders while maintaining puck control.
The only issue seems to be size and strength. A couple of detracting comments made on the various scouting reports mentioned the need to work on faceoffs and outside speed.

Noah Laberge is a big, mobile, two-way defenceman with the Chateauguay Grenadiers who really came on in the latter stages of the season. In a "Road to the QMJHL Draft" release on the Q website, Quebec CSR scout, Benoit Payment, uses terms such as "mobile defenceman with offensive upside," "significant improvements in confidence and decision making," and "becoming more physical" to describe his play.
Analytics show that he averaged 16:46 TOI and looks to have played 2nd pair PP and PK minutes. He won 47% of his puck battles and put 46% of his shot attempts on goal.
Watching his game action, he's very mobile in his own end and has good speed with the puck through the neutral zone if there is open ice to gain the offensive zone. He has a nice hard slapshot from the point and is solid in puck retrieval. When he makes the decision that he's leaving his post and going after a loose puck, he makes sure to get it done. He has a good defensive conscience.
Noah put up 1-1-2 totals in 4 games at the QMJHL Cup. He has the makings of becoming a solid two-way defenceman.
Update: The profile above was put together a year ago leading up to the 2022 draft. Since that time, Noah joined Saint-Hyacinthe and had an outstanding season. He amped it up even more during the playoffs (15-2-9-11-4) as the Gaulois won the league title and then scored at a point per game (7-1-6-7-4) at the Telus Cup.

Jonah Leard is a quick, two-way right winger who put up a solid 23 points as a rookie on a very strong and veteran laden Moncton Flyers team that won the Atlantics in Newfoundland. He can pull away if he gets in behind the opponents' defence and is quick on the forecheck. He can find the open man with a pass and can finish when he gets a chance.
Last year, he led the U15 Dieppe Flyers in scoring, so he does have a history of being a con- sistent scorer. He averaged 15:18 TOI this season which indicate 3rd line minutes, so it was a more than respectable output. He'll play a much bigger role on a younger edition of the team next year.
Analytics show that he played a bit on the PK this season and put 63% of his shot attempts on goal over the season. He's still a bit on the light side at 141 lbs., but his height is average for his age group in hockey. He'll likely put on some weight and break out next year as a better than point per game player.
Jonah is rated as a 'B' player on the latest CSR release and ranked to go as early as the 3rd round in the upcoming Q draft. He had a lot of very top forwards playing ahead of him in Moncton this season and he still showed well. Somebody might like him a bit higher than I have him on my list. He might be under the radar a bit.
Update: The profile above was put together leading up to the 2022 QMJHL draft. After being selected by the Titan, Jonah went back to U18 with the Moncton Flyers and had a huge season, finishing 3rd in league scoring and 2nd in assists (32) as the Flyers swept the top three spots. He was outstanding in the playoffs (12-4-15-19-22) and also got into 5 games with the Titan putting up an assist. The rebuilding Titan have a deep group of prospects up front, and Jonah should get a really long look in camp. He grew a bit over the season and is now listed at 5'11" and 152 lbs.

a - Led NSU15HL in goals (39). b - Named to NSU15HL 1st All-Star team. "Jacob Rhyno is a small yet extremely talented player with superb puck skills and a high hockey IQ. He possesses elite skating ability with breakaway speed, making him a threat to score at any moment. Being undersized, Jacob’s adjustment to U18 hockey has taken a few games, but you can see that he’s beginning to find his stride. Rhyno put up prolific numbers in Bantam last year, so his time could be coming. As he continues to develop, he should play a pivotal role on a young and exciting Dartmouth squad." - Taylor P. Burke, Nova Scotia CSR Scout
Jacob Rhyno is very small, but also very dynamic. He led the NSU15 league with a runaway 39 goals last year. Luke Sinclair was the only other league player to break the 30 goal mark with 33. He has a really nice shot with a quick and sneaky release. When he gets a small opening, that's all he needs to break away on a rush and he easily beats defenders to the outside with dekes. He finished 4th in goals in the NSU18 league this season and trailed only Cole Chandler (26) in goals by a 15 year-old.
It would be easy to drop him to much later in the rankings because of his size, but he shows that he's more than willing to battle along the walls and in the slot and push back. He also has strong leadership qualities. He's very sturdy on his skates and rarely gets knocked down. His upside is huge. He's another player who can sometimes resemble Josh Lawrence when he goes for a skate.

"One of the youngest players in this draft class at 17, Pekarcik already has NHL-ready size at 6-foot-2 and 183 pounds. As young as he is, he showed well against older competition thanks to his skating – arguably his greatest skill. He’s able to accelerate to his top speed rather quickly, causing problems for defenders through the neutral and offensive zones. His puck skills need polishing, but there’s enough there to build around and see what kind of play- maker he can be in the coming years. To go along with his speed and playmaking, he also possesses a high level of competitiveness with and without the puck. Defensively, he consist- ently engages the opposition, taking away passing lanes and tying up sticks. Offensively, he’s physical, gets to the front of the net, and regularly wins his puck battles. Like his buddy Dvorský, Pekarcik will remain in Europe for the time being as he continues to develop. At pick no. 76, taking a player with his upside who displayed great skill at the WJC was a no-brainer for the Blues. He may not crack the organization’s top prospect lists this season but could easily shoot up the ranks with a strong showing in 2023-24." - thehockeywriters.com
Juraj Pekarcik was drafted by the Titan in the CHL Import Draft at a lofty Number 2 overall. He was a 3rd round pick by the St. Louis Blues in the 2023 NHL Draft but remains unsigned. From the release above, it sounds like the plan is for him to play the coming season at home in Slovakia.
I don't want to put too much of a personal slant on it, but I remember a year or so ago wondering if David Moravec would report to the Mooseheads. I thought that if I was a player agent - how I'd want my client to go to North America with the war raging in my back yard. I don't know - a gut feeling is saying there might be a real chance he reports after the Blues' training camp. One way or another, I had to include him here on this list.

Titan announce new hires among Hockey Operations staff Sep 11 2023 Article
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan is pleased to announce new hires among our hockey operations staff, as we welcome Assistant Coach, Dylan Beston and Equipment Manager, Jordan Stene.
Beston spent the past two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He was the associate coach and assistant general manager in 2021-22 with the Drayton Valley Thunder. Beston went on to undertake an assistant coach position in 2022-23 with the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
Beston and Titan General Manager and Head Coach, Gordie Dwyer have worked together in the past, first with the Charlottetown Islanders during the 2014-15 season. They continued to work alongside one another from 2015-2017 for Medvescak Zagreb in the Kontinental Hockey League.
“Dylan is a motivated, modern coach who brings an intuitive mind, positive attitude, and consistent work-ethic which align with the core values of our organization. Our shared experiences coupled with his diverse coaching resume, including the QMJHL, KHL, Hockey Canada, EBEL and the AJHL will be valued in driving the development and performance of our players. We welcome Dylan, his wife Caitlin, daughter Madilyn and son Henrik to the Chaleur region and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan family,” said Dwyer.
Stene joins the Titan after spending the past two seasons as a trainer for the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Prior to that, he was a student trainer for three seasons with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s hockey program.
Stene has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan and was part of the Huskies program that won the 2020 Canada West championship and their 2017 silver medal at the U Sports national championship.
“Jordan’s candidacy was highlighted by his education, motivation and relevant experience. His time with the Yorkton Terriers and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies have served in preparation to follow in a long line of successful Acadie-Bathurst Titan equipment manager alum, following the most recent promotion of Bradey Williston with the NHL’s Washington Capitals organization. We welcome Jordan to the Titan” said Dwyer.
Meanwhile, the Titan have restructured and added to their scouting staff. Sammy Mayers remains Titan Head Scout and will be accompanied by the following:
Head Atlantic Scout: Paul Currie Nova Scotia Scouts: Mike Hachey and Kyle Dunn New Brunswick Scout: Brayden Olafson Quebec Scout: Norm Charbonneau “We are excited about the changes we’ve made and the additions to our scouting staff. We want to widen the scope of our coverage and ensure that no stone will remain unturned in our evaluation process. Brayden and Kyle are excellent scouts who will enhance the staff with their experience, hard work, and dedication. Veteran Norm Charbonneau returns in the key and valued position of scout in the Quebec region. Moncton’s own and Halifax-based Mike Hachey will take charge of the Nova Scotia region after nearly a full decade of dedicated seasons with the team. Stratford’s Paul Currie has been appointed Head Atlantic Scout. Paul’s experience and expertise were valued through his contributions in the Atlantic provinces last season. We look forward to Paul’s expanded role within our scouting staff” said Mayers.
The organization places high priority on bringing top talent to the Chaleur Region while driving the development of its players, including their on-ice performance, their education, and their roles as young leaders in the community. These new appointments will continue to drive the performance of the entire region’s team on and off the ice.

The Titan's 2023-2024 roster is officially announced! September 18, 2023
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan has solidified its 2023-24 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League roster, Titan general manager and head coach Gordie Dwyer announced today.
The team will include 18 veterans and five rookies. Dwyer expresses that the hockey staff is very excited to begin working with this year's edition of the Titan.
“We think we have one of the best goaltending tandems in the league. We also believe we have four lines that can all contribute to the offense and that we have a mobile defensive corps that will push the pace and support the offense. The team has a unique blend of experienced veterans and young prospects, both up front and back,” Dwyer said.
Forwards Robert Orr, Dylan Andrews, Donovan Arsenault, Joseph Henneberry, Matthew McRae, Dominik Godin, Alexandre Lallier and Blake Pilgrim-Edwards are back. Defending our territory, we find Emile Perron, Ty Higgins, Harry Clements, William Bishop and Drew Maddigan. Joshua Fleming will be in net again. The newcomers are Antoine Keller, Milo Roelens, Colby Huggan and Jared Cosman.
The Titan drafted Keller 62nd overall in the second round of the CHL Import Player Draft. Last season, he played for Genève-Servette U20 of the U20-Elit in Switzerland, finishing the year with a goals-against average of 3.40 in 25 games. Keller was drafted 206th overall in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals. Joining Bathurst from Sherbrooke, Roelens will be in his fourth year in the league after an exceptional season with the Phoenix and an impressive performance in the playoffs. The six-foot-six, 207-pound center scored 22 goals and 37 assists for a total of 59 points in 68 games last season. He also posted an average +/- of 37. On the defensive side, Cosman will provide stability while contributing to the offense. Registering 5 goals and 19 assists in 57 games last year with the Sea Dogs, the five-foot-ten, 180-pounder from Saint John is entering his fourth season in the league. Huggan, originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, played with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for the past two years. In 2022-23, the 5-foot-11, 143-pound forward scored 3 goals and had 4 assists in 25 games.
NHL camps are well underway and five Titan players are preparing to demonstrate their talents. Keller, Washington's 7th round pick, will be in the Capitals cage while Roelens has been invited to the Colorado Avalanche camp. Joey Henneberry (San Jose), Ty Higgins (Pittsburgh) and Josh Fleming (Buffalo) will join the newcomers to their respective NHL camps. All three Titan players received invitations after attracting the attention of NHL scouts last season. These five players are expected to play an important role on the Titan this season.
Rookies Louis-François Bélanger (forward), Ty Peddigrew (forward), Samuel Fréchette (forward), Noah Laberge (defender) and Zachary Deleau (defender) complete the team. The Titan selected Bélanger 21st overall in the second round of this year's draft, and Ty Peddigrew, 46th overall. Laberge, Deleau and Fréchette were Titan prospects in the 2022 draft.
“We believe that each player offers unique skills to the team and can add to the roster in their own way,” said Dwyer.
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan's home opener will take place on Friday, September 22 at 7 p.m. at the KC Irving Regional Center when the team will face the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs. Pre-game activities will begin at 5 p.m. outside and inside the arena.
Titan fans can purchase their tickets online before the home opener.
