GATINEAU OLYMPIQUES Benoit Desrosiers  TEAM OUTLOOK:    Head Coach: Benoit Desrosiers; GM: Serge Beausoleil    Imports: D Jan Golicic; C Sander Wold                                                                                                               The Olympiques (49-12-4-2) went "all in" last year and fell in the semi-finals to the even-  tual Memorial Cup winning Quebec Remparts in 4 games. Now, the rebuild begins.    Most of the discussion on the message forums has them finishing in the bottom third of  the league this season.    With most of their 2003 players moving on to play pro hockey, the few returning become  pieces to trade in order to rebuild. There aren't a lot of moving pieces in June and July,  but there should be in August and again in January.  Update: Benoit Desrosiers was hired as head coach on July 3rd.  Update: Former NHL'er and long time Truro Bearcats coach, Shawn Evans, was officially  added as an assistant coach on July 31st. Zacharie Beausoleil was also named an assist-  ant.

Kaiden Kirkwood GOALTENDERS 04 Kaiden Kirkwood   06 Zach Pelletier 06 Kian Hodgins    GOALTENDING:  The Olympiques have two goalies returning in Emrick Despatie and Kaiden Kirkwood. Both      played with the team in March, although Francesco Lapenna was the clear number 1.  Notes:  2003 G Emerik Despatie could be in tough for one of the three overage spots. Update:  Emerick is now showing on the Cowichan Valley Capitals roster of the BCHL for the coming  season as of July 25th.  2006 G Zach Pelletier got into 1 game last season with the Olympiques (0-1; 5.00 GAA; .750  Save%). He put up outstanding numbers in U18 with Saint-Eustache and there could be a  crowd in the crease in training camp.  2005 G Carter Richardson could be a dark horse. He played the season in the BCHL but only  got into 12 games. While that might be par for a 17 year-old in the BCHL, all goalies want  the net. Update: Richardson was not at training camp.

I can only guess, but the Olympiques will likely look to move some  veterans and restock the cupboards at some point.  Notes:  2004 D Ryan Healey is already playing with NCAA Harvard University.  2004 D Samuel Lachance was not at training camp.  2005 D Cory MacGillivray was added in a trade from Rimouski on August 8.  2003 D Jacob Renaud-Viau got into 6 games with the Olympiques last season (6-1-1-2-0)  including 3 games in March.  The Olympiques selected big (6'6"-190 lbs.) 2006 D Jan Golicic with their 1st pick in the CHL  Import draft. Golicic is offensively gifted (37 points in 18 Austria U18 league games). He  then led all defencemen in playoff scoring (17 points in 9 playoff games along with a scrappy  35 PIM)

Even filling out a rough projected roster is a chore.  Notes:  2006 LW Justin Dumais is on loan for training camp from the Moncton Wildcats. He is the      younger brother of Jordan Dumais of the Mooseheads. Update: The trade for Dumais was  completed on August 26th.  2006 LW William Labranche was acquired in a trade from Baie-Comeau on August 26th.  2004 LW Nathan Levesque got into 15 games with Rimouski last season (15-1-4-5-6) and  added 3 points in 8 playoff games. He was added to the training camp roster in early July  on loan. Update: The trade for Levesque was completed on August 26th.  2003 LW Marcel Marcel would double as a 20 year-old and an import, but given the lack of  scoring on the projected roster, it's a tough call. The addition of Charles Boutin (see below)  would make the choice a bit easier. Update: Marcel was signed to an AHL deal with the  Rockford IceHogs on July 20.  2006 LW Xavier Parent was added in a trade from Cape Breton on August 1.  2005 LW Francis Woods played the first half of last season with Val d'Or before joining the  Gatineau Flames of the QJHL (16-10-7-17-14) for the rest of the season. Update: A trade  was completed with Val d'Or on August 27th for Wodds who had been on loan for training  camp.  The Olympiques will reportedly (Jeremy Fraser) be completing a trade for 2003 C Charles  Boutin from Cape Breton in early August in return for draft picks. Update: The trade was  completed on August 1.  2004 C Felix Caron is NCAA commited to RPI for this coming season.  2003 C Will Chisholm was not at training camp.  2003 C Zachary Dean is signed by St. Louis and will play in the AHL this season.  2007 C Ryan Dwyer is the son of Acadie-Bathurst Titan head coach Gordie Dwyer.  2003 C Hakon Hanelt is showing on Elite Prospects to be playing in Germany this season.  2003 C Riley Kidney is signed by Montreal and will play Pro this season.  2005 C William Smith is NCAA commited to Boston College for the coming season.  2004 C Trystan-Felix Tremblay got into 6 games with the Olympiques last season  (6-0-0-0-0).  The Olympiques used their 2nd CHL Import pick to select 2004 C Sander Wold of Norway.  He was a big scorer in U16.  2004 RW Genaro Fronduto played 2 games with Charlottetown and 24 with Gatineau last  season (26-2-3-5-11) before finishing the season in Terrebone.  2003 RW Alexis Gendron hasn't signed with the Philadelphia Flyers as of late June, so  there could be a chance he will return, or bring in a good return. It isn't often you see a 55  goal scorer return for his 20 year-old season. Update: The Flyers signed Gendron to an  entry level contract on July 25.  2003 RW Olivier Nadeau is signed by Buffalo and will play Pro this season.  2005 RW Isaiah Parent was acquired in a trade with Moncton on August 27th.  2004 RW Justin Sullivan got into 25 games with the Victoriaville Tigers last season  (25-1-4-5-12).

Notre-Dame QM18AAA  35    0    4     4   34    Justin Blais is a solid, two-way defenceman with College Notre-Dame. He is a better than    average skater with good mobility. He's very sturdy on his skates. He can hold the point  and find a lane, but he's not offensively gifted. He likes to play with a physical edge and  projects to be a bottom six defenceman in major junior. The Hockey Prospect and CSR  scouts clearly like him to have him ranked in the 2nd round in their final rankings.

Notre-Dame QM18AAA  42    9  14   23   24    "Dubé is a forward who has a lot of maturity in his game. He has good size and uses it to    his advantage, both in puck protection and while forechecking. He is a hard worker with an  above average hockey IQ. The forward has seen his responsibilities increase lately as his  coach trusts him as much on the power play as he does on the penalty kill. Offensively, it  will be interesting to follow his progression between the end of the regular season and the  playoffs." - Frédéric Lévesque, CSR Scout    Elliot Dube is a good 200 foot player who looks after the defensive side of the game first.    He has a good shot and is proving to be a bit of a depth scorer. He will need to work on his  skating to make it in major junior. He is projected to be a middle six forward who can play  up or down the roster.    Once you start getting down to the 3rd and 4th round projected picks, there is a drop in  talent and you need to look a lot deeper. The scouts who like Dube really like him a lot.  They have him ranked as an 'A' prospect and he's projected to go in the 2nd round. I have  him ranked in the 3rd. He's a tough player to project.

He also has good size. He plays more of a defensive style of game, although he  doesn’t hesitate to join the rush when the situation presents itself. He was an important  part of the QMJHL Cup last October, when he was playing for Nova Scotia in preparation for  February’s Canada Games. He has great potential in his development, which makes him a  quality prospect for the next QMJHL Draft.” - Pierre Cholette, Director of Central  Scouting   Brady Peddle is a big, mobile defenceman who is already solid defensively and has a lot of   offensive upside. He scored 16 goals in 31 games during his final U15 season before moving  on to Bishop Kearney Prep 16U this season.   He is the younger brother of Tyler Peddle and the son of St. FX head coach, Brad Peddle.  He likes to keep the game simple and make the safe play, but he's also adept at jumping up  into the play when a goal is needed, or working the powerplay.    Brady has been projected as a 1st round pick towards the QMJHL draft for the past several  seasons. A trademark of the Peddle family is farm boy strength and solid leadership skills.  His goal scoring is down a bit in his first season at Prep school, but he's a blue chip prospect  who could go higher than I have him projected.    Brady had a good showing at the Canada Games with 4 points in 5 games (5-1-3-4-2).

Drafted QMJHL: Gatineau (2022-2-35)  Me 95  CSR 62 2006  ZACH PELLETIER, Saint-Eustache U18 6'2" - 141 lbs. Goalie: Catches L SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP W-L-T SO GAA SV% 2019-20 Mont-Laurier Draveurs QBAAA  13   8-3-0    0   1.25     - 2020-21 Nord Selects QMEAA   -  0-0-0   -  0.00    - 2021-22 Saint-Eustache Vikings QM18AAA   22 11-7-0   0  2.83  .895 2021-22 Team Gray Quebec Cup     2  1-1-0   0  3.07  .870 2022-23 Saint-Eustache Vikings QM18AAA   20 16-4-0   5  1.88  .927      Zach Pelletier already has the height they look for in a goalie standing at 6'2" at age 15.   He's a bit on the light side at 141 lbs., but has that big frame net presence.    He put up good numbers this season as a 15 year-old with an 11-7 won-lost record and  went 1-1 at the Quebec Cup against some top talent in his age group with most players  looking to put up points. He had a strong playoff showing with a 3-2 record with a 2.42  GAA  and a .900 Save%.    Analytics show that he stops 83% of shots from the home plate area and 80% of the  breakaway shots he faces.   Watching his game action, he likes to stay on his feet more than most goalies these days  and he takes away the bottom half of the net well. He needs to work on getting back in  position quicker as he tends to over-slide on each side of the net after making saves, but  his net presence, as mentioned earlier, is very noticeable.    He doesn't give a lot to shoot at - but he can over-commit to the east-west passing plays.  He's 15 and exceptionally good. He's likely going to become a really good QMJHL goalie.  Update: The above profile was put together a year ago leading up to the 2022 QMJHL   draft. Zachary returned to U18 with Saint-Eustache and put up sparkling numbers with a  1.88 GAA, .927 Save% and 5 shutouts. The Olympiques scouts appear to have uncovered  a gem.

Drafted QMJHL: Gatineau (2023-3-55)   Me 133   CSR C   HP 101 2007 WILLIAM-ALEXIS TREMBLAY, Levis Chevaliers 5'6" - 150 lbs. Right Wing: Shoots R SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP G A PTS. PIM 2021-22 Mauricie Estacades QM15AAA  31  11  19    30   30 2022-23 Mauricie Estacades QM17AAA  18    6  13    19   28 2022-23 Trois-Rivieres/Levis QM18AAA  13     3     2     5     4   William-Alexis Tremblay moved up to MU18 from U17 in mid-season and played one game  with Trois-Rivieres before finishing the season with Levis. He's a fantastic skater who's very   quick and can turn on a dime. He's also good setting up in the offensive zone. He'll need to  get bigger and stronger, but the offensive upside is there. Both CSR and Hockey Prospect  have him ranked much higher than I do in their final rankings.

GATINEAU – The Gatineau Olympiques announced on Friday that 10 players have been redirected to their respective teams.
