ROUYN-NORANDA HUSKIES Martin Dagenais  TEAM OUTLOOK:    Head Coach: Martin Dagenais; GM: Yannick Gaucher    Imports: RW Daniil Bourash; C Andrei Loshko                                                                                                               The Huskies appear to be ready to make a run for the Courteau Cup this season. They  made a couple of key acquisitions starting in goal with William Rousseau from the  Memorial Cup champion Remparts.     Their group of defencemen might be the league's best - and deepest. 2003 Jeremy  Langlois was another big piece of the Remparts and should return as an overager.   Up front, they added 2004 star import Andrei Loshko from Chicoutimi and 2004 Antonin  Verreault from Gatineau. The Huskies might very well be the league favourites heading  into the 2023-24 season.

GOALTENDERS

William Rousseau GOALTENDERS 03 William Rousseau    05 Kyle Hagen  GOALTENDING:   With the addition of 2003 William Rousseau from the Remparts, the Huskies appear set in     goal. Rousseau was outstanding in the playoffs and at the Memorial Cup and is arguably the  best goalie in the league.  Notes:  2005 G Kyle Hagen put up good numbers with the Huskies last year and should serve as a  very capable backup.

They have size,   experience and a good amount of offense from the back end with two D-men with 50 plus  points last season.  Notes:  2006 D Guillaume Fillion got into 2 games with the Huskies last season (2-0-0-0-0).  2004 D Coen Strang (31-1-4-5-2) spent the first half of the season with the Huskies before  joining the Amherst Ramblers of the MHL at the January roster freeze.

As with all teams, there will need to be some     juggling of the roster by position. They list 21 centers and only 5 right wings on their camp  roster. I would guess that they will look to add another goal scorer at the trade deadline.  Notes:  2006 LW Samuel Beauchemin got into 2 games with the Huskies last season (2-1-0-1-0).  2005 LW Olivier Dubois was traded to Sherbrooke on August 25th.  2005 C Ryan Leonard is NCAA commited to Boston College for the coming season.  2005 C Samuel Leonard is NCAA commited to St. Lawrence for the 2025-26 season.

PIM 2021-22 Gatineau Intrepid QM15AAA  24     5     2      7     8 2021-22 Gatineau Intrepid QM17E    7     1     1      2     2 2022-23 Ottawa Senators HEO U18  41     5   17   22   10    Anthony Allain-Sumake played this season in Ottawa and had a fantastic rookie season. He  had been the target of widely reported racist attacks while playing in Gatineau and made  the move to join the U18 Senators this season. Watching his game action, he's a bit on the  small side for a D-man, but he's a really good skater and puck handler. He's very strong  holding the point and making deft moves just inside the blueline to find a lane. He has the  confidence to hold onto the puck for that extra split second to make a play rather than just  getting rid of it. He's also very conscious defensively. He had a strong showing with Team  Lafleur (4-1-1-2-2) at the final leg of the QMJHL Cup.    Because he wasn't on a Quebec or Maritime U18 roster, he slipped under my radar when I  first put together my master list, but he definitely belongs in the top four or five rounds of  the draft. He has some wow in his game and has some similarities to Jordan Tourigny. I'm  not saying he will be another Tourigny, but he has a lot of upside.

Goaltender: Catches L SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP W L GAA SV% 2021-22 Lac Saint-Louis QM17E  19     9   3  1.37    - 2022-23 Chateauguay QM18AAA   21    9  7 3.39  .906    "Samuel Meloche is one of the top goaltending prospects as he played Midget Espoir as a     14-year-old last year. He tries to make the most of his big size (6’2’’, 181 lbs) by playing a  strong positional game and looking to get hit by pucks as much as he can. He has shown  good ability to move around his crease with power in his legs. His athleticism is better than  expected for such a big guy, but he sometimes lacks urgency and energy in his game. He is  a goaltender with great potential, but still has a few things to work on to become a dom-  inant netminder." - Maxime Ouellet, CSR Goaltending Specialist    Samuel Meloche has great size for a goaltender at 6'2" and 180 lbs. He appears to be  technically sound. He has good rebound control and is very mobile and athletic. The knock  on him seems to be that he can go down early and be drawn out of position, but I find him  able to recover quickly. He has all of the tools to become the type of goalie teams look for  these days with his size and mobility.    Meloche had a good showing at the Canada Games where he played 4 games and put up  a 2.30 GAA and a .909 Sv%. His numbers were much better than fellow prospect William  Lacelle (4.40 GAA; .878 Sv.%) in front of the same team. Both had 2-1 records.

Drafted QMJHL: Rouyn-Noranda (2023-3-48)   Me 54   CSR 52   HP 68 2007 CHARLES DESMET, Saint-Eustache Vikings 6'0" - 150 lbs. Right Wing: Shoots R SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP G A PTS. PIM 2021-22 Nord Selects QM15AAA  23   15   12    27   38 2021-22 Nord Selects QM17E    2    0    0      0     0 2022-23 Saint-Eustache QM18AAA  38    5  11   16   20    Charles Desmet is an above average skater who is taking some time to adjust to the U18  level. He's creative and can generate chances with passing or shooting. The knock on him is  that he isn't physical and plays on the perimeter. Sometimes, it takes players time to adjust  to the next level.   To try to put things into perspective as far as the draft and probabilities, the top two rounds  of the draft would ideally provide teams with their best two players over the next few years.  Round 3 would be players who have the upside to become top players. Rounds 4 and 5  would provide them with their roster depth, or your 2nd and 3rd line forwards and 2nd and  3rd D-pairs.    Charles Desmet, with his size and upside should project into a very good 2nd line player.  He's shown in the past that he can score goals, and another season of U18 should see the  numbers go up significantly. He should project into a solid 3rd round pick.

Drafted QMJHL: Rouyn-Noranda (2023-3-51)   Me 27   CSR 60   HP 36 2007 WILL REYNOLDS, Fredericton Caps 6'0" - 150 lbs. Defence: Shoots L SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP G A PTS. PIM 2021-22 OHA Mavericks HEO U15  23     3     6       9   12 2021-22 OHA Mavericks HEO U18    1    0    0      0      0 2022-23 Fredericton Caps NBPEIU18HL  35    2  14    16    12    Will Reynolds joined the Caps this season after a season with Ontario Hockey Academy. He  is known for his skating and footwork and has huge offensive upside. He's still on the light  side at 150 lbs. He will need to improve on the physical side, but that should come with  getting stronger. His skating really sets him apart.    I was surprised how good he is defensively, defending the cycle, pinning his man, knowing  who to cover, and he's able to hold onto the puck on the breakout to wait for a better option  or pass. He's very poised for a 15 year-old. He didn't jump out at first, but once he did, its  hard not to notice him. He plays a similar style to Oscar Plandowski.
