VICTORIAVILLE TIGRES Carl Mallette  TEAM OUTLOOK:    Head Coach: Carl Mallette; GM: Kevin Cloutier    Imports: RW Egor Goriunov; C Nikita Prishchepov                                                                                                                The Victoriaville Tigres are picked by many to be one of the top teams in the league this   coming season. Goaltending appears set with both Nathan Darveau and Gabriel D'Aigle  eligible to return. There is depth and scoring at both forward and defence.    The biggest decision in training camp will be determining which three 20 year-olds to go  with. They have five top players to decide from and only three can stay. A positive is that  all are expected back in the Q this season and not playing pro, so good returns in trades  are possible.

Nathan Darveau GOALTENDERS 03 Nathan Darveau   06 Gabriel D'Aigle  GOALTENDING:    Goaltending should be the Tigres' biggest strength heading into training camp with both      2003 Nathan Darveau and goalie of the future, Gabriel D'Aigle, set to return. Both put up  solid numbers last season.  Notes:  2006 Gabriel D'Aigle was projected by many as the top ranked prospect heading into the  2022 QMJHL draft. He didn't disappoint and could challenge for the number 1 role as early  as this season.

They are big and mobile and arguably the best group in  the league, but there will be some big decisions with regard to the three 20 year-old spots.     From the outside looking in, I would guess that Frederic Brunet and Igor Mburanumwe  could both be on the move. Those are decisions that only the coaches can make, and of  course, I'm only guessing. It's going to be really interesting to see how it plays out.  Notes:  2003 D Frederic Brunet got into a game with the AHL Providence Bruins last season but is  still unsigned by Boston and shows on Elite Prospects to be returning to Victoriaville as of  July. Update: Brunet will be playing pro this season and was released from the roster on  August 27th.  2005 D Alexis Jacques (17-0-2-2-12) played 39 games with the Tigres over the past two  seasons before dropping down to finish last season in U18 with the Blizzard. Update:  Jacques was traded to Charlottetown on August 22nd.  2005 D Loic Mburanumwe is the younger brother of Igor.  2005 D Lucas St-Louis is the son of former NHL'er Martin. He is NCAA commited to Harvard   for the coming season.

Tommy     Cormier (85 points) and Maxime Pellerin (86 points) will almost certainly be back. As with  most teams, they will need to juggle the forwards around by position to find the right mix.   Notes:  2004 LW Nathan Morin is NCAA commited to Harvard for the upcoming season.  2006 C Noah Larochelle got into 4 games with the Tigres last season (4-0-1-1-0).  2005 RW Emerick Bussieres got into 1 game with the Tigres last season (1-0-0-0-0).

The average size for a    player in his 15 year-old season is about 5'10" and 160 lbs., so he isn't that far off. One  reliable draft source mentions that he is a very good skater who handles the puck well  and is a good playmaker.    His numbers weren't overwhelming, but for a 15 year-old rookie, they were good. He  finished 4th in team scoring with 27 points. Analytics showed that he finished 4th in hits  (37) and won 45% of his puck battles. He didn't shy away from physical play. He played  2nd line PP and PK situations and averaged 15:40 TOI.    Watching his game and highlight footage, he definitely has some skills, but he also  clearly needs to put on some size and muscle to play at the next level.    Noah didn't make it onto the CSR list of 'A' and 'B' prospects, but he is ranked as a  possible 4th round pick by another top draft source.  Update: The profile above was put together a year ago leading up to the 2022 QMJHL  draft. Noah returned to U18 with College Notre-Dame and had a fantastic season. He  finished 2nd in the league in goals (31) and 4th in points (52). He finished 18 points  in front of the next highest scorer on his team (Mathys Cote). He also got into 4 games  with the Tigres, picking up his 1st QMJHL point. He's now listed at 5'10" and 163 lbs. and  should be ready to step in full time this season.

Drafted QMJHL: Victoriaville (2023-3-43)   Me 115   CSR 74   HP 43 2007 JAKOB HANLAN, Gatineau L'Intrepide 5'10" - 150 lbs. Goaltender: Catches L SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP W L GAA SV% 2021-22 Gatineau Intrepide M15AAA  14    7    3  2.21    - 2022-23 Gatineau L'Intrepide QM18AAA   29     5   17  4.06  .866     Jakob Hanlon didn't put up great numbers, but he still finished ranked at number 74 on   the final CSR list. Watching his game vid, he has a good net presence and looks bigger  than his listed size (5'10" - 150 lbs.). He takes away the bottom half of the net well and  has good hands. He's another goalie the scouts really seem to like despite what the  numbers say.

PIM 2021-22 Sag-Lac Espoirs QM15AAA  29   12   16    28   18 2022-23 Jonquires Elites QM18AAA  42    5  12   17   28    "Christophe Tremblay is a very hard-working winger who gets involved on both ends of  the ice. He has good size that he uses efficiently, especially during his battles along the  boards. He also distributes the puck well to his teammates. Tremblay needs to continue  to improve his skating, more specifically his explosion. However, he has many other assets  that will certainly keep QMJHL teams interested ahead of the next draft." - Katerine  Aubry-Hébert, CSR Scout    Christophe Tremblay is a big winger with a good shot who likes to go to the front of the    net. The knock on him is that he needs work on his foot speed and to play up to his size.  He   took awhile to adjust to U18, but scouting reports have him as a high risk - high  reward type of player heading into the draft. He projects to be a solid 2nd or 3rd line  banger who can add some depth scoring.

Drafted QMJHL: Victoriaville (2023-3-58)   Me 138   CSR 37   HP 78 2007 MADDOX LABRE, Lac St-Louis Lions 6'1" - 165 lbs. Defence: Shoots R SEASON TEAM / LEAGUE GP G A PTS. PIM 2021-22 E. Sec. Du Chene-Bleu RSEQ  23     7   10    17     4 2022-23 E. Sec. Du Chene-Bleu RSEQ  29     2   23   25   24   Maddox Labre is very much under the radar playing RSEQ rather than Major Midget. He   has solid offensive instincts and good size. He has a really nice shot from what I can see on  his available game action. CSR had him ranked as a B' prospect in February and 37th in  their final rankings (early 3rd round). That's some heady praise by a group of very qual-  ified scouts.

One transaction and three redirected players

The Tigers made a trade at the trade deadline on Sunday. General manager Kevin Cloutier has traded 19-year-old goaltender Edouard Gauthier to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. In return, the Felines get their hands on a 7th round pick in 2025.

Gauthier had been drafted in the 7th round by the Felines in 2020 and had not played a game with the team.

The Tigers also redirected the following three players:

William Faucher (2006)

Carl Mallette's men will take advantage of a few days off, before resuming action on Friday, September 8 at 7 p.m. at the Mario-Gosselin Center in Thetford Mines.
