The Cape Breton West Islanders visit the Weeks Majors tonight at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. As usual, Petter Sports will have all of the action through This is a big game for the Isles, as they would need to run the table to get home ice in the first round of the playoffs (plus get some help in the form of Valley losing out the stretch). For the Weeks, 6th is still in the picture, but is a longshot, as the Mustangs have 5 games left to the Weeks 2. Islanders strike first tonight at 3:32, with a bit of a weird goal. The puck went high into the air, and Colby Brown lost sight of it. It ended up hitting the crossbar behind Brown, and deflected to the stick of Jack Hayne, and the Isles leading scorer took advantage of the fact that Brown still hadn't found it to tuck it past him easily for the 1-0 lead.
The Weeks responded at 14:55 with a shot from Ryan Aucoin. I am drawing a blank on how it happened.
Then at 18:48 on the power play, the Weeks took the lead with a point shot from Ben Manos, playing in his 100th NSU18MHL game. Jake Poirier made the save, but the rebound came to Ben Poehl, who was able to pot the go-ahead goal for the Weeks. The period ended with the score 2-1 Weeks.
Shots in Period 1 were 13-10 for Weeks.

Three goals in the second period, and it was the Islanders striking first with a very strange goal (sounds familiar??).
Jack Hayne threw the puck toward the top of the crease, looking for a pass to the back-side I think. However, the puck bounced off of Ben Manos' skate and into the net to tie up the game at 2-2.
Manos redeemed that miscue just a few minutes later, as he took a feed from Ryan Vohra at the line, stepped up to the top of the face-off circle and blasted it past Poirier to reclaim the lead for the Weeks, 3-2.
Later in the period a shot from the point by the Islanders was deflected by Carlin Samson, and the redirection was enough to steer it past Brown and tie the game for the third time of the night, 3-3.
Shots were 19-9 in that period for the Weeks, 32-19 overall. However, that total belies how close this game has actually been.
