Hearing from a good source that the Springhill Coal Miners franchise has been sold to a couple of players and will be relocating to Amherst for next season. They would play out of the Amherst Stadium with Friday nights targeted.
I hate to see Springhill lose their team - especially combined with the loss of the Junior B Blues.
I'd personally like to see a group of younger hockey supporters and enthusiasts try to bring in a NSU18MHL franchise to the area that could draw from Cumberland and Westmoreland Counties and possibly play out of Springhill.
They could even draw up a schedule made up of games against both NS, NB and PEI teams. While some might think it can't be done, it has been done before in other leagues. It is a given that the greater Moncton area could ice two competitive U18 teams. Memramcook - Shediac - Amherst - maybe get Derek Cormier or Mario Cormier involved - and it could fly.

Shame if that is true that they will move to Amherst. Springhill deserves a hockey team and its been clear from their attendance numbers, plus it is a nice rink. I don't like the move too much: They aren't going to be the main tenant, I can't see the attendance jumping much even with the move (so many who are interested in Senior just make the 20 min drive), especially with the Rams looking like next year may be an all-in year. I predict the County might give the Coal Miners a good deal on ice to stay in Springhill, would be a disaster for that rink to lose them and go from 2 teams to 0.
Regarding high-level hockey in Cumberland, absolutely should be available, current system puts such a disadvantage on Cumberland players unless they jump to Truro right at U11. I doubt they'd be allowed in U18 Major out the gate, but I think trying for U15 Major in NS, or even Minor U15AAA in the NB league would be a massive step, especially if Sackville and Memramcook players could choose. There is a growing group of young hockey minds in the region so hoping to see some action long-term.

Guessing that Corey Crocker could be behind the bench next year.
It wasn't that long ago when he coached the CeeBee Stars of the NL Senior League.
I don't know about competing with the Ramblers, but at $10.00 a ticket for both - it would be pretty affordable to follow both.
The only question would be - what do you like doing on your Friday and Saturday nights?
Sunday afternoons have always been good for Senior.
Also hearing that it will be a lot easier to get players to commit to playing in Amherst - just off the highway.
Players like Dana Fraser must be tempted to play. Like Laurie Barron said - play for as long as you can - you have the rest of your life to work. Dana's a good athlete. He could likely step on the ice at any time and pick up right where he left off.

Miramichi has both senior and Jr a! They both seem to be doing well enough. Senior is a very short season also. Just make sure the Ramblers own the liquor license. Lol
