Injury shouldn't matter. This is a cheap shot on a player who 1. is in a compromised position because he does not expect to be hit and 2. has never attended a checking clinic. As a former goaltender I can tell you those helmets are on securely and that it takes a significant impact for a goalie mask to pop off like that. This is a dangerous play in itself, then add to the situation it occurred in garbage time of a game that you are down 5-1, the goalie who was hit was the back-up for his team coming into the play-offs with the expected starter already injured and a U18 call up goalie as the next viable option.
Billy should be suspended, the player should be suspended. Period.

They already take every dirty run they can at Justin David. Just imagine if Rouleau wasn't injured and we are hear talking about this exact situation. Gutless

Indefinite suspension pending a hearing

Been awhile since we had this much response to a poll.
Sometimes I look at the replay and what always gets me is how hard Flanagan's helmet flies off his head and sails directly into the end boards. It's so fast that you really need to pay attention or you miss it.
A split second after the point of impact - Flanagan's head is unprotected before he hits the boards and lands on the ice.
You really need to look hard to see that. If it was as simple as a player running a goalie and the helmet stays on - it isn't nearly as dangerous - but it isn't hard to put a shoulder out or twist a leg even if the helmet stays on.
I hope he doesn't show any ill effects. Sometimes the adrenaline is pumping and you feel OK - no damage done - and then you can barely get out of bed the next morning or it hurts to turn your head to one side. I think we've all been there.

Indefinite suspension pending a hearing I have a feeling that if it was an Amherst or Miramichi player - the suspension length would already be up there - with a minimum 15 games.
