Most, if not all, of the players that the Summit would target will be attending spring POE ID camps in their home provinces. Then they will be attending Summer POE selection camps in their home provinces. Then many will attend Q camps. Then even more will attend MHL camps. Then they will attend the Challenge Cup in Moncton. No doubt the players have a full plate already and their parents' wallets will be stretched thin. If those kids want to enjoy what little bit of summer thats left over it may be unrealistic for them or their parents to want to hit the road again for another long weekend in Fredericton.

The concept just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me besides Freddy prospects trying to replace their summer "Advanced camp" that they have held for years which seems to have had declining interest in the last few years.
If you have already been drafted to the MHL as an 07 or 08 kid why would you go? The team that drafted you already would somewhat know what they are getting and every kid will be doing their own summer training with plans to show up to camp in august.
Maybe if it was earlier in the spring after the MHL season had finished and it was for draft eligible kids or kids that maybe went undrafted.
All it really screams to me is that it is a money grab and parents are already paying lots

The only thing that would make sense is a draft combine, but honestly even that might be a waste of time. League has lots of other things to focus on, this might be a better idea if both Quebec and the Maritime Jr A leagues were to merge.

The league constitution spells out that no training camps may open more than 12 days before Labour Day - but drafted players are being asked (invited) to show up before that. It sets up a bit of a conflict of interest - especially when the onus is on teams and their staffs to also give up part of their summers "for the betterment of the league."
1.12 Team on-ice training camps will start no earlier than twelve (12) days prior to Labour Day.
Yes - I know it is voluntary - but there is also a bit of a herd mentality and veiled pressure about it with the "you will be seen and graded by Elite Prospects - the Neutral Zone and so on". . .
I see the possibility of a boycott of the MHL Summit in support of our MHL players building on several fronts. I've never boycotted anything in my life - hockey or otherwise - but somebody needs to stand up in support of the players against league management and especially against people like Troy Howatt.
I think the shit is going to hit the fan at some point - but not claiming I will be able to make a difference on my own. It's going to take players, parents, teams, scouts, team staffs and sponsors to stand up to the MHL leadership to have any kind of effect.
If they do - I'll likely become involved in some way. The fans, teams and players especially, need to reclaim the MHL from the current leadership group.
Edit: I should have added that in no way is this talk directed towards Fredericton, the Red Wings, the Shannon family or the Red Wings family. This is about one thing and one thing only - seizing back control of the league from the PEI group. They are - basically - the exact blueprint for how not to run a Junior A league.

This format and the concept was flawed from the beginning!
