The Caps were out skated, out hustled, and out played the entire game. At no time did they have sustained pressure in the Wolves zone. The coaching staff looked cute in their matching hats though. Obviously the wardrobe selection did not just happen. I know it may seem a small matter but to me it indicative of a casual approach to the game. The Caps did not compete in any zone and were extremely challenged by the Wolves forecheck resulting in many turnovers, scoring chances, and ultimately goals. Certainly not what people have come to expect from island teams. I think the Caps came into game two with an air of superiority but they left with no air in their tires. Players today don’t want to put up with the nonsense of game two and it makes me wonder if the coaches have lost the room. The Wolves made a statement with their play on Sunday. The pressure is squarely on the shoulders of Billy and his staff to have their own statement game tonight.
But the ''hat'' that you say may signify a casual approach, that's an interesting take.... they have worn them for quite sometime now dating back to the regular season.
Do I think that perhaps everyone, including myself, may be over reacting on things? Absolutely, the series is tied 1-1 and we're only going into Game 3 for F sakes.
If the antics did anything, they added some spice and hatred to the series which perhaps happened in the West Kent series and (no pun intended) - they poked the wolf, and that didn't fair out too well for the Steamers. Ryan Harper is eligible to return to the lineup tonight and hopefully they have him reeled in because he doesnt shy away and will certainly finish hits..... however, he also has potential to do something stupid, did in midget, has here.... so they will have to control his emotions.... Nolan Stewart should draw back in tonight too. That line will have to be careful.
I don't think that the coaching staff have lost that room what so ever. In saying that, Summerside' moto (its even on their warmup shirts) has been ''Nobody likes us and we don't care''.... and I really believe they could care less.
The Caps have had that problem all year on being dominate at home and turning it off and on, on the road more often than not.. a couple bounces last game, couple breaks and perhaps it is a different outcome, I am sure that is how the team is viewing it.... Summerside coaching staff and players have experience in these moments, and I am in no way saying that Miramichi will not win this series because they have every opportunity to do so and if they steal one tonight in Summerside, they're certainly in the drivers seat, but the old saying goes ''Experience is overrated, until you have none'' and I truly believe that they can have that game be a ''one off'' and not look back. But they're playing a team that believes and has momentum, and as everyone knows, momentum is ever so important in a 7 game series, league finals or not.
This game should be a high stakes game with lots of adrenaline flowing and what should be another big crowd in Summerside... game time in T- 9 hours and you can already feel the buzz. Unlike Yarmouth last year steamrolling the competition and sweeping Edmunston in 4 games to with the MHL Finals.... this series has some jam and some meaness to it and it certainly wont be a quick series. GREAT for the MHL!
Go Caps Go!
